How to become a member:
1. Visit 3 times within 1 year ( Address )
2. Take the 101 Class
3. Fill out the membership form and pay the membership fee (30$)
4. Be vetted ( Board does this )
5. Get Membership Card
The 101 Class is the only class you need to take. Once you take it, it will act as sponsorship on subsequent visits. This class goes over our Rules and etiquette expectations and has what constitutes consent and how to avoid violating it and thus creating issues for the Society and fellow guests and members. This class is held almost every Saturday and the first Friday of each month. Specifically, it is easiest to take this class on our Town Meeting night at 8 PM
Sponsors
To visit the Society as a guest you need a sponsor. There are several ways this works;
1. A Member in good standing can be your sponsor, (Someone you know)
2. An invasion can be your sponsor if the host of an Invasion accepts you to attend.
3. If you are a card-carrying member of an affiliated organization such as NELA, That card will act as your sponsor
4. If you have taken our Society 101 Class and have your guest card signed off, that card will act as your sponsor. You can always come to our Potluck munch and then take the class prior to “playtime”.
Getting a sponsor is not difficult. If you go to a local munch and meet a member of the Society, they may be willing to sponsor you. And the Society has its own munch every second Saturday from 6 to 9 PM. It’s a potluck, so please bring a dish. At this potluck, you are sure to find someone that will be interested enough to sponsor you.
After your first visit, you can either still have a sponsor, or if you received a card to count your visits and Society 101 class, and you have the Society 101 class marked off, that card can act as your sponsor for subsequent visits.
Note to existing members: If you wish to sponsor someone, but are unavailable to attend the same evening, You can request for a Stand-In Sponsor, from a member of the Board.
To past members, who wish to reclaim their membership:
If it has been more than a year since your membership has expired, Please fill a new application, complete a Society 101 class, and pay your dues.
If it has been less than a year since your membership has expired, please fill out a new application and pay your dues.
If it has been less than 90 days, Please just pay your dues and full Membership privileges will be restored immediately.
